Are you trying to decide between hardwood floors and wood laminate floors? If so, you may wish to go with the latter. There are many reasons why you may want to do so. Saving trees is one of the biggest. When you choose laminate flooring wood, your floors will not only be cheaper, you won’t have to worry about nailing, sanding, staining or finishing. The hardwood flooring laminate is resistant to dents, fading, scratching and stains. You’ll love how easy they are to maintain and they look as good as their hardwood counterparts.

When you go to select laminate flooring wood, you will find that there are many styles and colors to choose from. Many woods grains are available to select from or you may wish to go with a patterned or parquet floor. This will depend in large part on which room the flooring will be installed in. Parquet and patterned floors are best for smaller areas such as entryways and foyers. Light colored woods can be used throughout the home and dark colored styles set off ultra white walls in ways you never imagined. Take care when choosing dark colored floors though as they can tend to make a room look smaller.

Wood laminate floors are comprised of four layers. These layers are bonded together using pressure and heat. The core and stabilizing backing make up the base of the wood floors. Both the wood composition based core and the backing are saturated in resins as this helps to resist moisture. The middle layer is a melamine/aluminum oxide combination which is also resin based. This is the layer that will be seen. To protect the finish of the floor, each plank is topped with a clear aluminum oxide sheet which is resistant to stains.

Due to the composition of hardwood flooring laminate, your floor will expand and contract as the humidity level changes. For this reason, you will use a floating floor installation process. The floor is not attached to your existing sub-floor. Rather it will sit on top of it to allow for the expansion and contraction. Don’t use these floors in areas of high humidity such as bathrooms and laundry rooms because they could be damaged due to this.
